| 19.08.02 GET INTO THE GROOVE AT HUDDERSFIELD ART GALLERY |
The
record is dead. Metal CDs reproduce sound, spinning out of view to the listener.
But the possibilities of vinyl are still open to exploitation by sound artists,
composers and turntablists. Resurrected in a new form, vinyl recaptures
its excitement, sound and dominance. A new exhibition at Huddersfield Art
Gallery brings together the quintessential exponents of vinyl disc
culture, putting the needle back into the groove and the groove into
art. |

.02 DEAD OR ALIVE |
Jeepers
Creepers! Prepare to be scared as the The Terrace Gallery at Harewood House
presents new and recent work by Mark Fairnington Exciting contemporary artist Mark Fairnington sends a shiver down the spine with two series, focusing on all things creepy crawly. In both the new Membracidae and earlier Mantidae collections, Fairnington marries science and art with a look at insects both in the field and those preserved for many years. Up close and magnified, the paintings incite a compelling fascination and the same deliciously spine-tingling sensation as finding a spider in the bath. |
